BIS

Know about the entire registration process for the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) by connecting with the experts of FilingYug.

BIS Certification is a method of delivering a third-party guarantee of product quality, safety, and dependability to customers. BIS Certification is a voluntary program; however, the Indian government has made it mandatory for some products in the interest of public health.

BIS - An Overview

The goal of BIS is to analyze product samples when they are in the preliminary and surveillance stages. BIS has eight central laboratories, four regional laboratories, and three branch laboratories throughout India. The Indian government encourages BIS registration for the following reasons:

  1. It assures quality
  2. It protects public health.
  3. It Protects consumers from risky and faulty products
  4. It boosts consumer’s confidence

How to get BIS registration in India?

The BIS Registration is awarded by the BIS office following successful product safety testing per notified Indian Standards and the submission of required papers.

Who can apply?

Manufacturers of products that are notified under the Compulsory Registration Scheme, whether based in India or elsewhere, must register under the CRS. However,

  • For things made or produced in different places, a separate Registration number is required.
  • Each brand or product made or produced at the same location requires its Registration number.

Documents needed

The documents that an individual must submit for the BIS Certification procedure are divided into two categories:

The first section focuses on the technical aspects of the samples gathered for a lab test. The manufacturer’s information must get included in the product’s construction specifics, such as:

  • PCB layout
  • Schematic diagram
  • User manual
  • Critical component list

The producer or applicant must submit all Factory Documents and Details in the Application form for BIS Certification in the second portion, which contains the following fundamental manufacturing unit details:

  • Trademark registration copy
  • The organizational chart of the factory
  • Proof of the factory’s legal address
  • List of installed machinery
  • A list of the tools used
  • When the producer is from another country, the AIR (Authorized Indian Representative) documents are required.

The BIS Certification process takes around 30 to 35 days to complete. It also involves a 15 to 20-day testing period and a 10 to 15-day BIS application processing period.
